As a Certified Practitioner by the American Association of PEMF Professionals (AOPP), I now proudly offer Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field Therapy for small animals in the office. Using the gentle, yet effective Pets PEMF pad, canine clients may now add this therapy to any massage therapy or craniosacral therapy appointment for to help reduce inflammation and relieve soreness.

What is PEMF Therapy?

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy was designed by Nasa scientists to reduce anti-gravity illness, and specifically works by mimicking the natural, grounding energy of the Earth. When used at a low level, it oxygenates the blood, increases energy throughout cells and reduces inflammation- as a result helping the body to achieve balance or homeostasis. It is a gentle, non-invasive tool to be used in addition to bodywork or chiropractic sessions.

When to Use

All animals are different, and it is best to always use the lowest setting possible. The most common use of PEMF therapy is to reduce inflammation throughout the body. As a result, it is best used when:

  • Limping or lameness
  • Pre or Post Surgery
  • Arthritis
  • Muscle soreness
  • Injury
  • Stiffness

Contraindications

Because this device uses a strong magnetic field, there are some contraindications for use. The practitioner may not use under the following circumstances:

  • Pregnant animals
  • Metal in body (i.e. TPLO surgery)
  • Hip Replacement
  • Pacemaker
  • Herniated disc
  • Bitches in heat.

*Note: for the above it is advised to speak with your veterinarian for alternative therapies or options, including but not limited to massage therapy or cold laser therapy. Also, please note owners with pacemakers, hearing aids, or other metal in their bodies must stand at least 10 feet from practice area for their safety.

A Tool For Pain Relief

It’s important to note that the primary goal of this device is for pain relief and to increase blood flow at the cellular level. This therapy is not a replacement for veterinary care, soft tissue bodywork, or chiropractic care. As a result, this is offered as an add-on rather than a standalone service.

Contact me today if you would like a consultation or to add it to your bodywork session.
